While the ESXi is getting installed, it will display a progress bar as shown below. You will get the following installation completed message that will prompt you to reboot the server. In the next article, let us review how to perform the initial ESXi configuration. I heard that managing vmware ESXi is difficult from command line, so we need to use vSphare client which is not free. Hi Ramesh, Great article!
I am just starting to learn abt ESXi and was wondering how you could take those screenshots without a client. I know, it may be silly question for those who are already using. As I understand vSphere client comes with it, will that provide the functionality to take screenshots? I understand there is a way to install using graphical mode so you can increase the block size. Are you aware of this option and how to access?
Many thanks! Ramesh, great article. We all are waiting for the second part and reply of these questions. Will be great help if you can guide us. Looking for some step by step instructions on building and configuring a ESX server from beginning to end.

I have some queries related to the esxi installation. You just installing clears workstation and upgrading with Esxi OS. Finally installation completed with one ip address. In this installation you need to give root password. Then you minimize this vmware workstation running with ESXi , you do not power off the vmware workstation.
With this said, there are a few things you should do as soon as ESXi is deployed. Due to this, VMware will store logs in memory and alert you in the UI to create a persistent location for your logs.
The problem with storing logs in memory is that if the host is rebooted, then all log files will be lost. To set a persistent location for your logs, there numerous ways as pointed out in this KB.
Time synchronization for your Virtual Machines and Hosts is essential for your logs. Anything that requires cryptography will also likely be time-sensitive, including authentication.
Even if you are running a lab, consider all the time you have invested setting up your Virtual Machines. Fortunately, there are various vendors that offer community versions of their backup software for free.
So do yourself a favour and backup your environment! Production or lab, you should have an idea on your ideal position on power settings. With power configuration, there is a tradeoff between power costs and noise vs performance. If your hosts are within a vCenter environment then they will disconnect from vCenter Server but will still be manageable directly.
