When was cwm idwal formed

The dark and brooding cliffs of Cloqwen y Geifr the Cliff of the Goat form a dramatic backdrop to the lake. The plume of steam that rises from a crack in the towering rocks above, bestows another name on the area- Devil's Kitchen. The steam, however is the result of moist air coming into contact with the rock face, forcing it upwards, causing it to cool and condense to form swirling clouds. You can see why it was once thought to have sinister origins - today though you're more likely to see the bright coloured jackets of hikers scrambling up the gorge.

Our tour of Cwm Idwal ended in rain, but was enjoyable and informative nonetheless. The beautiful, picturesque landscape provided an opportunity for good photographs. A Wales of a Blog. It would not be possible to see a cross-section of the Idwal syncline in Twll Du without the impact of the glaciers, during the Ice Age, between 10, and 13, year ago.

Charles Darwin Cwm Idwal has attracted a great many people to study it over the years. One of those was the geologist and ecologist Charles Darwin.
